Leading the Fabergé Market
Christie's has had a long and successful history of selling works by Fabergé. In November 2007, an important Fabergé egg from the Rothschild family collection sold for £8.9 million ($18.5 million) in our Russian Works of Art sale in London. This sale established world auction records for a Russian work of art, a work by Fabergé and a timepiece. With the sale of the Imperial Winter Egg, which realized $9,580,000 in April 2002, Christie's also achieved the second highest price for a Russian work of art sold at auction and the second highest auction record for a work by Fabergé. Christie’s has also been entrusted with the sale of works by Fabergé from some of the most distinguished collections in the world, including The Collection of H.R.H The Princess Margaret, The Collection of King George of the Hellenes, The Forbes Collection, The Kazan Collection and The di Portanova Collection.

Christie’s continues as the global leader in the Fabergé market. Since April 2010, we have an unrivalled sales total of over $13 million (£8 million) for Fabergé and we have sold seven of the top ten works by Fabergé to come to auction. In November 2010, Christie’s established a new world record for an Imperial Presentation Snuff-Box set with a portrait miniature, which sold for £937,250 ($1,463,985) and also achieved 74% market share over our nearest competitor. The exceptionally strong results achieved for Fabergé in our June 2011 sale further confirmed Christie’s dominance in this field and established 61% market share over our nearest competitor. In our most recent November 2011 sale, Christie’s again achieved the majority of top prices for works by Fabergé.
