Christie’s holds important sales of 20th Century Decorative Art & Design twice annually in New York (June and December), Paris (May and November) and London (April and October). Additionally, specialized sales are held for Lalique (S. Kensington) and Tiffany Studios (New York) along with several off-season sales for each auction location.
The global 2011 sales for 20th Century Decorative Art & Design totaled in excess of $93 million. The first half of the year saw the ground breaking sale of the Chateau de Gourdon Collection in Paris totaling an impressive €43,864,649, with eight lots selling above €1 million as well as a world auction record for a work by Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann. The second half of the year demonstrated continued success with one of the largest private collections of Tiffany glass going under the hammer in New York, in addition to a world record setting sale of ten sheep by Francois-Xavier Lalanne for $7.4 million.
The success of the 2011 sale season of the 20th Century Decorative Art & Design department builds upon the strong foundation established with previous record setting auctions of the Collection Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé in 2009, the Collection de Claude et Simone Dray in 2006 and an Important Private French Collection in 2005. The truly collaborative effort of our specialists, combined with continued success at each sale location, establishes Christie’s as the global leader in 20th Century Decorative Art & Design.
